The Iving is the ultimate expedition jacket. It is taped and the waterproof components are bonded together by a special lamination technique without penetrating seams. The filling weight ensures a very good insulation and the cut gives good protection. The waterproof shell is normally not needed in very cold situations. But situations vary on most expeditions and when there is snow in the air the jacket will always get wet sooner or later. Iving is especially recommended for rescue situations where you often encounter people with hypothermia even in above zero conditions. Under these circumstances a standard down jacket would be wet in no time. If you have responsibility over a group of less experienced people this is what you want to pull out of your pack in a critical situation.
